Héliographe

About The Name

The company name comes from "heliography" - the process invented by Nicéphore Niépce in 1822, which produced the very first photograph ever made.

The word "heliography" is formed from the Ancient Greek

☀ helios: sun + ✎ graphein: to write, draw

In its original conception, taking a picture is effectively drawing with the sun.
Similarly, photography is photos (light) + graphein (to write).

The French version of the word was chosen as a reference to the French origins of both photography, and my own.

About The Logo

Faithful to the company name, the company logo is a stylized sun.

Within it is an eye - a reference to the artistic, subjective, and human process that is photography.

The logo was also partly inspired by the flag and emblem of Tokyo, where I have been living since 2023 and was inspired to start the company.
